I love talking to the guards when I go to museums, for exactly these reasons. The personal relationships these museum workers develop with artworks over time is very special, and I would love to see that celebrated and honored more—specifically, in how we compensate their labor and knowledge. As Ariana Jacob noted recently on Twitter, despite the BMA's exhibition curated by security staff, the museum is also trying to prevent their workers from unionizing.
Absolutely knocked OUT that the Security Guard exhibit happened and that the staff was supported and paid! On top of your beautiful and illuminating writing and the perspectives you share, you open such wonderful doors for us. 💜
